Pedro Leão

Working on prokaryote genomes and metabolic pathways reconstruction from environmental samples

Pedro finished his Ph.D. in microbiology in 2018 at UFRJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro). His thesis title was "Diversity of Magnetotactic organisms: New frontiers for magnetotaxis evolution." Pedro worked as a visiting professor at the department of Microbiology of the same institution and as an FSE fellow at the University of Groningen as part of the Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute (GBB). His interests are in metabolic and phylogenetic diversity of prokaryotes and it evolution.

At the moment, Pedro is a postdoc fellow under the supervision of Dr. Brett Baker at the University of Texas, Austin studying the diversity of Asgard archaea and it role in the origin of eukaryotic life.
