The camera documents conditions in the Port Aransas shipping channel, looking towards the intersection between the Aransas Pass/Corpus Christi Ship Channel, the Aransas Channel, and the Lydia Ann Channels for maritime awareness. It is also near the NOAA Aransas Pass tide station.

Real-Time Wave, Water, and Weather Data in the Gulf
UTMSI has two SOFAR buoys north of the north jetty in 12 meters of water and approximately 2.5 miles from the shoreline. One buoy records environmental data such as wave, water temperature, dissolved oxygen and salinity. A second buoy records wave data and sounds with a passive hydrophone, to listen for fish spawning activity. Check out the real time wave, water, weather, and sounds conditions:
UTMSI has one SOFAR buoy approximately 30 miles offshore in 40 meters (130 feet) of water that collects the same environmental measurements as the nearshore environmental buoy, including wave, water temperature, dissolved oxygen and salinity.

Data collected for the summary table below is at The University of Texas Marine Science Institute Pier Laboratory on the Aransas Pass Ship Channel linking Corpus Christi Bay to the Gulf of Mexico (27 50.3N; 97 03.1W).
TIDES: Our longtime oceanographer, Tony Amos, created the program that generated our tide predictions. Since his passing in 2017, we no longer have access to the specialized software he developed. The final set of tide predictions produced with that program ran through the year 2025. We are currently working to generate location‑specific tide predictions, but in the interim, please visit:
