Hurricane Harvey 5-year anniversary

Hurricane Harvey 5-year anniversary

It's been five years to the day that Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas coast. While a significant number of repairs to the University of Texas Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) facilities and buildings have been completed, reconstruction from Hurricane Harvey is 85% complete. We are in the final stages of repair to the Center for Coastal Ocean Science (anticipate completion in 2023), Patton Center for Marine Science Education (anticipate completion in fall), Lund House for visiting scientists (anticipate completion in September), and the research pier (anticipate completion in September). The University is still working on repairing lost student housing and construction has already begun on two of those projects, which include the Wilson Cottage expansion (anticipate completion in 2024) and the Estuarine Research Center Dormitory (anticipate completion in 2023). In addition, several smaller-scale projects will begin this year including a rebuild of the Amos Rehabilitation Keep Animal Hospital, seawater system, and campus irrigation. The University hopes to be complete in two years, seven years after Harvey hit.
