  • Postdoctoral Position in Teleost Sperm Physiology
    A postdoctoral position is available starting this fall (October 2021) to investigate the signaling pathways mediating progestin hormone induction of hypermotility in flounder sperm and enhanced male fertility through membrane progestin receptor alpha (mPRα) via a nongenomic mechanism. This postdoctoral research appointment will be for up to 2 years and is funded by a grant from the US Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The research will be conducted at the University of Texas at Austin, Marine Science Institute at Port Aransas, Texas. This postdoctoral position will provide an opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research on one of the most comprehensive vertebrate models of hormonal upregulation of sperm motility and fertilization capability. The results of this research are expected to provide the background for developing novel practical in vitro procedures to enhance sperm motility and fertility in male broodstock. Applications are sought from interested physiologists/reproductive biologists who have completed a Ph.D. and have demonstrated a strong record of research productivity.   • Education Specialist R_00015224 This position is responsible for assisting with educational programming and coordinating the activities of volunteers for the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve (Reserve) at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) in Port Aransas and at the Bay Education Center in Rockport. Position needs a positive attitude, ability to handle multiple tasks, and to be well organized. Must have excellent communication skills to engage a wide audience from K-12 students, community outreach, and adult education programs. Internal candidates apply HERE.   • The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenured faculty position (Associate or Full Professor) in the Department of Marine Science. We seek an accomplished scientist with expertise in any discipline that investigates regional and/or global marine processes. Interdisciplinary researchers who couple physical, biogeochemical, and/or biotic processes in estuarine and coastal environments are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates should have a strong research record, including significant extramural research funding, and should have a commitment to excellent teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain a nationally recognized research program, mentor graduate students and postdoctoral scientists, and teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
