Dr. Chris Shank receives appreciation award

Christopher Shank was nominated this year to receive an appreciation award from The University of Texas at Austin services for students with disabilities.

Faculty and staff play an integral part in making sure that students receive their accommodations, and every semester there are faculty and staff that go above and beyond the call of duty to help students with disabilities. To recognize these outstanding members of the UT community, students nominate faculty and staff who have made a significant contribution to their lives as students at the University of Texas. As a token of appreciation, honorees receive an engraved clock at the end of each semester in appreciation of their efforts on behalf of those with disabilities. The following is an excerpt from a nomination:

“Dr. Shank is more than a professor. He cares about his students and wants them to understand and learn as well as enjoy the process. He has introduced me to internship opportunities and his past colleges and students who I can contact for further information on those opportunities. I spoke with one of his old students who had nothing but gratitude for him. He makes learning exciting and inspiring at times. I am only a second year student, I have not met many professors yet but I do know that NO one deserves this award more than he does.”

Dr. Shank is a senior lecturer in the Department of Marine Science and is the lead instructor on the main campus. He teaches many of the marine science courses held in Austin and is also a recipient of the University of Texas Board of Regents Outstanding Teaching Award in 2011.
