Teacher Workshop Registration is Open

b2ap3_thumbnail_TOTE2014_Plankton-Sampling-on-UTMSI-Pier_web.jpgThe TEACHERS ON THE ESTUARY (TOTE) Workshop is a National Estuarine Research Reserve System program.

The Mission-Aransas Reserve will host a TOTE workshop, July 14-16, 2015, at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, TX, to help middle and high school science teachers access locally and regionally relevant scientific research and apply it in classroom, laboratory, and field investigations. The workshop will cover topics that affect the entire Gulf ecosystem, including freshwater resources, oil spills, and climate science. All activities presented at the workshop will be aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

The TOTE workshop is open to middle or high school science teachers who teach in one of the following Texas coastal watershed counties: Aransas, Austin, Bee, Brazoria, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Colorado, DeWitt, Duval, Fayette, Fort Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Harris , Hidalgo, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lavaca, Liberty, Live Oak, Matagorda, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr, Tyler, Victoria, Waller, Washington, Webb, Wharton, or Wilacy. 

TOTE workshop participants will receive:
• A free, three-day workshop, July 14-16, 2015
• Hands-on instruction featuring locally relevant research and interaction with the scientists who conduct it
• Interaction with reserve educators from other Gulf of Mexico states who will provide a regional perspective to cross-cutting issues
• A $175 personal stipend
• $100 worth of supplies for classroom, fi eld, or laboratory activities
