Over 500 middle school students from around the Coastal Bend participated in field trips as part of the Teachers on the Estuary (TOTE) project. The large influx of eager-to-learn students is a result of the teachers that participated in a TOTE training this past summer. During the workshop the teachers learned how to access real-time data and apply these data in field investigations involving scientific problem solving. They were then able to take the lessons learned and bring their classes into the estuary to conduct hands-on investigations themselves. The teachers and students learned about the wonders of our coastal areas and the benefits inherent in protecting them.
The TOTE workshops and field trips are supported by the Texas General Land Office Coastal Management Program and managed by the Mission-Aransas Reserve.
