Austin is the state capital of Texas, home to The University of Texas Longhorns, and “The Live Music Capital of the World”.
Graduate Students in the Department of Marine Science typically spend their first two long semesters in Austin taking courses and fulfilling their teaching assistant requirements. Many of the graduate students love their time in Austin and often find just about any excuse they can to go back and visit once they move down to Port Aransas.
Austin is an eccentric, vibrant city with a unique culture all its own. There are numerous great bars, restaurants, parks, theaters, music venues, and galleries throughout the city.
