Local elected officials and planners met on December 11th at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute to discuss resiliency needs and tools for planning in your area. The forum was hosted by the Texas General Land Office and the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve to discuss resiliency needs of the local communities. The goal of the meeting was to help communities respond to threats facing our shorelines, such as flooding, storm surge, erosion and sea level rise. Several community leaders attended from local areas such as Nueces and Aransas County. The participants learned about tools that help them better identify risks and vulnerabilities. Local community leaders also had the opportunity to express their specific needs to the Texas General Land Office Coastal Division, which will incorporate the comments and needs into their new planning process. The meeting helped foster coordination between local communities and the state to ensure a strong Texas coast for generations to come.
