The Department of Marine Science seeks Assistant Professor candidates with expertise in any discipline that investigates regional and/or global marine processes. Applicants should have a strong research record and a commitment to excellent teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a nationally recognized research program, mentor graduate students and postdoctoral scientists, and teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels. A PhD or equivalent is required at the time of appointment, and postdoctoral research experience is expected.
The position is located at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas, adjacent to estuarine, inshore, and offshore habitats of the Gulf of Mexico. Significant resources include:
- Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve (in partnership with NOAA)
- Fisheries and Mariculture Laboratory complex
- Full-service core analytical facilities
- Marina
- Marine Science Library
- Animal rehabilitation operations
- Marine Science Education Center
Many of of these facilities have been recently renovated. A Center for Coastal Ocean Science is being established, which will support marine environmental science research in chemical ecology, toxicology, physiology and biochemistry.
